About our Founder

Meet Ra Clay, the dedicated owner and operator of The Grey Area Nursery, a haven for native New Zealand plants nestled in the heart of Kaiata, a short 7 minute drive from Greymouth. Ra's roots run deep in the West Coast soil, as he is a proud West Coaster..

His connection to the land, forged through generations of whakapapa, imbues his work with a profound sense of purpose and passion.

From an early age, Ra's affinity for the outdoors was unmistakable. He found solace and inspiration in the untamed beauty of the West Coast landscape, fostering a lifelong commitment to preserving and nurturing its natural treasures. It's this profound connection that drives Ra's vision for a West Coast, Garden of Eden—a sanctuary where native plants flourish, and the natural world thrives in harmony.
